What should be expected of You
We, as Saluki breeders are more than willing to help an aware newcomer find a good dog or puppy, but we are very serious about our dogs and generally expect some things from you. We want evidence that you are serious about wanting to own our aristocratic Saluki and want to give her the best of all possible homes. We also want to know about your experience with other dogs. Will this Saluki be your first dog? You may want to take good care of a Saluki, but do you really know how?
Breeders will question your reasons for wanting a Saluki. Be prepared and not offended by this quizzing. Recognize that the vast majority of Saluki people only want to make certain that a puppy or an adult dog doesn't end up in abusive, neglectful, or ignorant hands.
What You Should Expect
When you approach a Saluki breeder about a puppy or an older dog, you should expect honest answers from a knowledgeable source. Try to find a breeder whose good reputation is as important as the producing of good and healthy Salukis. You must seek out the healthiest Saluki possible. Your Saluki is not only a financial investment, she is also a canine friend who will share your home and life for hopefully a decade or more. Can you afford to buy a close companion animal without having as much documentation and information about him as possible?
CONTACTING BREEDERS
Prior to actually selecting a puppy from any source, make certain that the Saluki you may buy has these vital documents and necessary records.
HEALTH RECORDS AND PASSPORT
Current health records showing all vaccinations with dates, workings with dates, and examinations by licensed veterinarian, including the results and treatments. All of my puppies are issued an international passport, it does take lots of efforts for me but I prefer to know that if they are about to travel outside the country, they will be all set.
PEDIGREE
An accurate pedigree showing the puppies parentage and family tree. This pedigree should also show the champions, hunting, coursing, agility and obedience title holders in your prospective pup's ancestry.
KFE REGISTRATION
The Kynological Federation of Emirates registration certificate confirms that this Saluki puppy is purebred, with his father (sir) and mother (dam) both being KFE registered Salukis. You should also receive application forms to forward to the KFE in order to register this puppy, if you do purchase her, in your name. I personally prefer to finish registration myself; therefore once the puppy is reserved, I apply for the registration under owners name. Such registrations are issued only after the litter has been examined by Litter Inspector and litter registration issued.
Remember: Most of all, you should expect that your study and careful search for an Arabian Saluki who you will share your life with will result in a healthy, temperamentally sound puppy without any genetic defects or inherited physical problems. Your entire experience as a novice Saluki owner will certainly be affected by your ability to be a knowledgeable, assertive, and careful consumer.
